Starting Anew

Spring 2020 will be one of the most memorable times of my life enduring the Covid 19 pandemic in isolation away from our children and grandson. Luckily at this writing only a hand full of family and friends have minor symptoms and no major complications. It’s a time of great change. Folks are working from home, homeschooling their children, working on their homes and spending more time together. People are driving less making gas affordable, mother nature is reclaiming her domain and toilet paper is hard to find. These are crazy times

When I am asked how we are doing I respond the same as always. What folks are learning about isolation we have been living for the past 30 years. I have always worked from home and looked forward to a day where that was the norm. We homeschooled our three children so we understand what you all are going through. Embrace it, enjoy it. Celebrate the teaching process and learn right along with them. Stop waiting for time to grow. The time is here.

I have been using my time in isolation to build this site, move away from Partners Photography & Illustration, and into my own space icillus.com. I’ve been working a ton in ZBrush and rendering in Keyshot. I’m doing the things I have always been doing but with a little more focus.

I will remember this period as a time I lost precious days with our 2-year-old grandson. Not being able to read to him at nap time and watch him drift off into a peaceful slumber in such unstable times. I will never get those days back. I will sadly remember how our daughter missed the traditional graduation ceremony from Purdue because everything was canceled. She worked so hard. I will also remember how our oldest daughter and husband sold their house during Covid19 and how unusual that whole process was.

As a child I heard of wars, winter storms, drought and family feuds but no pandemics. We will talk about this for generations and rightfully so. It will be forever remembered in Avett#2 a lifetime series of paintings for our grandson.

Let us all be grateful for what we have. Remember those who have lost lives and exhibit grace towards others.

BE SAFE!
